    We know spring is around the corner when the only way to get water to our seedlings is by sloshing buckets of water from our home to our seed starting house because the 'frost-free' hydrant doesn't live up to it's name.
    I love the saying March ,"Comes in like a lion and goes out like a lamb."
    Because this year, just like the last six years, March came in like a lion.
    And in farming there aren't too many things you can count on; so I'll take it.
    The two oldest farm kiddos have been a great help with seeding this week. Jay has been busy with maintnence and building projects, and I've got most of the crop planning done for the coming year. Despite that really high snow line on the nursery wall...it is feeling like spring will come!
    This week we seded 40,000 onions!
    Planted in flats.
    Transplanted in Mid-April.
    Watered consistently, weeded every three weeks.
    I never run out of wonder when it comes to seeding.
    Seeds that, literally, fit in the palm of your handwill fill a field this season.
    Onions, in the field, in summer.
    This week as I'm using 2018 onions in the kitchen and seeding 2019 onions in the tunnel I am so thankful for the full circle of life we experience each year at the farm.
    This week I'll be using up a bunch of our storage onions and garlic.  I'll have some recipes and storage tips in next week's newsletter.
